AMERICUS, Ga., May 22 -- Georgia Southwestern State University issued the following news release:
AMERICUS, Ga. (May 22, 2026) - Georgia Southwestern State University (GSW) President Michelle Johnston, Ph.D., has been named president of the University of Montevallo (UM) in Alabama.
Johnston accepted the position after it was officially approved and announced by UM's Board of Trustees on Friday, May 22. Her final day at GSW will be June 30.
Johnston shared the announcement with the GSW campus community and expressed her heartfelt gratitude to the faculty, staff, students, alumni and supporters who have helped shape the University's continued success during her two-year tenure.
