EMPLOYEE BENEFITS SECURITY ADMINISTRATION ISSUES PROPOSED RULE: ELECTRONIC DISCLOSURE BY GROUP HEALTH PLANS UNDER ERISA

WASHINGTON, July 23 -- Employee Benefits Security Administration has issued a proposed rule called: Electronic Disclosure by Group Health Plans Under ERISA.

The proposed rule was published in the Federal Register on July 23 by Daniel Aronowitz, Assistant Secretary, Employee Benefits Security Administration, Department of Labor.

Summary: This proposed rule sets forth a new, additional safe harbor for group health plan administrators to use electronic media ( e.g, email or web portal) to furnish documents and information to participants and beneficiaries of plans subject to the Employee Retirement Income Security Act of 1974 (ERISA).
