Congressman Marc Veasey (TX-33) is calling on the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to expedite the release of Elmira Azizi, an Iranian Christian pastor currently detained at the Prairieland Detention Center in Alvarado, Texas, after she was granted asylum in the United States. Azizi fled Iran after facing persecution because of her Christian faith. According to her attorneys, she has now been granted asylum, has no criminal record, and remains in federal immigration custody while awaiting DHS to complete the process necessary for her release.
