Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9), who feared for his life as rioters swarmed the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021, made the following statement after reviewing a U.S. Department of Justice request to the U.S. Court of Appeals in D.C. to vacate the seditious conspiracy convictions against the leaders of the Oath Keepers and Proud Boys:
"The DOJ request to vacate the convictions of these criminals is particularly offensive because the leaders of these dangerous groups were attempting to overthrow the U.S. government and it was made on the anniversary of Abrham Lincoln's assassination.
