CAMDEN, N.J., June 19 -- Camden County issued the following news release:
On Thursday, the Board of Commissioners joined Mayor Victor Carstarphen to celebrate Juneteenth at Roosevelt Plaza Park at City Hall.
"Juneteenth invites us to pause, reflect, and celebrate a pivotal moment in our nation's history," said Commissioner Al Dyer. "As we recognize the long-overdue liberation of the last enslaved Americans, it is a time for us to honor the many achievements and lasting contributions of the African American community."
Juneteenth, observed on June 19, marks the day in 1865 when the last enslaved people in the United States learned they were free, officially bringing an end to slavery.
