WASHINGTON, Sept. 25 -- Sen. Bill Cassidy issued the following press release:
U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy, M.D. (R-LA) introduced legislation to require states to conduct open primaries for federal offices and establish additional guardrails in congressional elections. The legislation includes commonsense provisions including requiring voter photo identification and placing limits on states' ability to gerrymander congressional districts. Despite broad public support for these provisions, Democrats rejected the proposals, even though they have previously expressed support for measures intended to give voters greater influence in the electoral process.
