Today, U.S. Senator Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.) and Tennessee State Senator Brent Taylor (R-31) sent a letter to Shelby County District Attorney Steve Mulroy demanding answers following a recent report (https://memphiscrimebeat.org/crime-2-3-1-1-1) that he released hundreds of criminal defendants into Shelby County with little or no punishment. In the letter, Senator Blackburn and State Senator Taylor ask how many of the criminal defendants in this report are Memphis Safe Task Force arrestees, how many cases involve violent or serious felony charges, and why so few prison sentences were imposed in cases involving serious felony conduct.
