(COLUMBIA, S.C.) -Attorney General Alan Wilson announced today that the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals has dismissed an appeal brought by suspected members of the violent Venezuelan gang Tren de Aragua, who were trying to avoid removal from the United States by the Trump administration.
In January, Attorney General Wilson led a 24-state friend-of-the-court brief supporting President Trump's authority to remove members of a foreign gang from the United States. The brief argued that the power to remove noncitizens under the Alien Enemies Act rests within the President's national security responsibilities.
