Veteran television journalist Katie Couric recently revealed that she had had a bout of transient global amnesia, a rare but temporary condition that suddenly robs people of nearly all memories even while they maintain self-awareness. The condition affects 3.4 to 10.4 people per 100,000 per year, according to the National Institutes of Health.
