Following reports of fire and smoke near a Saudi Aramco facility in Riyadh on October 3, Yemen's Houthis claimed they had attacked the Saudi capital with missiles and drones. Reuters independently reported seeing fire and smoke near the facility, but the cause was not immediately independently established.

In the social-media age, however, an unexplained fire can quickly become an "attack," an attack becomes an "airport closure," and within hours the impression can emerge that an entire destination is unsafe or inaccessible. Saudi Arabia is not closed.
