Aizawl, June 18 -- The ruling Zoram People's Movement (ZPM) on Thursday secured Mizoram's lone Rajya Sabha seat, with senior party leader K. Laltluangkima, also known as Laltluangkima Khiangte, emerging victorious in the election held at the State Legislative Assembly.

The result marks a shift in the Upper House representation from the opposition Mizo National Front (MNF) to the ruling party.

Returning Officer and Assembly Secretary Zothansanga Ralte declared Laltluangkima elected after receiving approval from the Election Commission of India.

Voting was conducted between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m., with 36 of the 40 legislators exercising their franchise, resulting in a 90 per cent turnout.
