Bengaluru, July 19 -- A fresh political controversy erupted in Karnataka on Sunday after senior Congress MLA HC Balakrishna allegedly referred to union Minister Shobha Karandlaje's "Yajman" while defending the controversial Bidadi Township Project, prompting the BJP to accuse the ruling party of misogyny and demanding an apology.

The remark was made during Balakrishna's defence of the proposed township project near Bengaluru, which has come under attack from the BJP and JD(S) over concerns relating to land acquisition and environmental impact. Balakrishna reportedly said the project had been initiated by Karandlaje's "Yajman" (husband).
