Bengaluru, July 9 -- Women's cricket in Karnataka is entering a new phase of growth, with the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) doubling the player purse for the second edition of the Maharani Trophy to Rs 80 lakh amid a sharp rise in participation, growing franchise interest and increasing attention from Women's Premier League (WPL) talent scouts.
The Maharani Trophy, scheduled to begin on July 22, will feature four franchises with each team allotted a player purse of Rs 20 lakh, up from Rs 10 lakh in the inaugural edition last year. The total player purse has consequently risen from Rs 40 lakh to Rs 80 lakh, reflecting the association's growing investment in the women's game.
