Kolkata, May 19 -- Women who file Income Tax returns have been declared ineligible for the Annapurna Yojana scheme in West Bengal, according to a fresh clarification issued by the state authorities.
The Annapurna Yojana, aimed at providing financial assistance to women, offers a direct bank transfer benefit of Rs 3,000 to eligible beneficiaries across the state.
Officials said on Tuesday the exclusion of Income Tax payers has been introduced to ensure the benefits reach economically weaker sections and genuinely needy women.
Under the scheme, financial assistance will be transferred directly into the bank accounts of eligible women beneficiaries.
