Sangli, May 1 -- Sangli NCP (Sharad Pawar faction) MLA Jayant Patil has demanded an investigation into the removal of a controversial Maratha Empire map from NCERT textbooks ostensibly in the light of certain historical inaccuraces.
Addressing a public event organised in this town in south western Maharastra against the NCERT on Friday, he said that while the Council had taken the bold step of removing the map, the real people behind the decision must be identified.
Patil said the map could not have been changed without formal approval from the education authorities and questioned who was responsible for altering the map of the "Hindavi Swarajya" established by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.
