Kolkata, July 10 -- After a prod from the Centre to focus on tourism as one of the main pillars of industry and growth, the West Bengal tourism department is preparing a comprehensive tourism industry policy, including cash and non-cash incentives for hotel projects and a standardised policy for homestays and bed-and-breakfast establishments, state Tourism Minister Shankar Ghosh said on Friday.

Speaking at the inauguration of the Travel & Tourism Fair (TTF) Kolkata 2026 at Biswa Bangla Mela Prangan, Ghosh said tourism would be treated as a major economic driver capable of strengthening the state's GDP and creating large-scale employment.
