Kolkata, Sept. 2 -- West Bengal will not allow hotels to operate from residential flats and buildings without the required conversion of their sanctioned use, Urban Development and Municipal Affairs Minister Agnimitra Paul said on Wednesday, as the state stepped up scrutiny of hospitality establishments following recent fatal fires.
Hotels operating from residential premises in areas such as Marquis Street, Free School Street and Collin Street will have to obtain building-use conversion under Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) provisions wherever applicable, Paul said after a meeting with representatives of hotel and restaurant associations.
