Kolkata, Sept. 1 -- West Bengal's Urban Development and Municipal Affairs (UDMA) department will step up action against illegal parking and encroachment of public roads, with the state government planning an app-based system to help motorists find authorised parking spaces and deploying technology for stricter enforcement, minister Agnimitra Paul said on Tuesday.
The proposed system will use designated parking zones and technology-enabled monitoring, while AI-assisted CCTV cameras and vehicle data may be used to identify traffic and parking violations.
The government has also introduced night-time parking charges from Tuesday as part of a wider drive to bring greater discipline to the use of public roads and pavements.
