Kolkata, Aug. 22 -- West Bengal's steel industry has urged the state government to scrap a proposed power tariff increase and ensure assured supplies of high-grade coal and iron ore, warning that higher input costs could hurt the competitiveness of energy-intensive manufacturing.
A joint delegation of the Steel Re-Rolling Mills Association of India (SRMA) and West Bengal Sponge Iron Manufacturers Association (WBSIMA), including Shyam Steel Director Lalit Beriwala, raised the concerns with Industry and Commerce Minister Tapas Roy and PWD and PHE Minister Ajay Poddar in Kolkata on Saturday.
