Snehal SenguptaKolkata, Aug. 10 -- West Bengal could unlock a potential Rs 10,000-crore seafood economy by bringing vast stretches of its unused brackish-water resources under scientific prawn cultivation, seafood industry representative Rajarshi Banerji said, pointing to the largely unorganised nature of the sector as a major challenge.
Banerji, a National Board Member of the Seafood Exporters Association of India (SEAI) and spokesperson for its West Bengal Regional Committee, raised the issues with Commerce and Industry Minister Tapas Roy during a question-and-answer session at a programme organised by the Indian Chamber of Commerce (ICC) on Saturday.
Roy asked Banerji to meet him again after August 17 to discuss the issues, he said.
