Kolkata, June 2 -- From next week, houses across West Bengal that fail to separate their waste could find their garbage left uncollected, as the West Bengal government moves to enforce mandatory segregation of wet and dry waste at source, Municipal Affairs and Urban Development Minister Agnimitra Paul announced on Tuesday.
Paul gave a seven-day compliance window, after which civic workers will not collect mixed waste from homes.
Paul said residents must keep wet and dry waste in separate containers before handing them over to door-to-door garbage collectors.
The move is aimed at improving waste management practices and reducing the burden on municipal disposal systems.
