Kolkata, June 6 -- West Bengal government on Saturday decided to investigate incidents of vandalism, arson and destruction of public property that allegedly took place during the anti-Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) protests across the state in 2019.

Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari directed Director General of Police Siddhanath Gupta to examine all complaints related to damage to government property during the agitation.

He also instructed the state police to set up a special cell to investigate the cases.

The Citizenship Amendment Bill was passed by both Houses of Parliament in December 2019 and subsequently became law after receiving Presidential assent.
