Kolkata, June 26 -- West Bengal Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Subhankar Sarkar on Friday demanded the immediate public release of the "Manish Gupta File", contending that it would reveal the truth behind the police firing on Youth Congress workers during the July 21, 1993 rally in Kolkata.
Referring to the report by former IAS officer and erstwhile Trinamool Congress MP Manish Gupta, who was serving as the state's Home Secretary at the time, Sarkar told reporters that the people of West Bengal have a right to know the administrative decisions and circumstances that led to the firing. He asserted that the file should be made public in the interest of transparency and accountability.
