Kolkata, July 21 -- West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari on Tuesday launched the the Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana in the state, offering households government subsidies of up to Rs 78,000 to install rooftop solar power systems.

The scheme, being implemented in the state by the Department of Non-Conventional and Renewable Energy Sources and the West Bengal State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (WBSEDCL), aims to help households generate their own electricity and reduce power bills.

Under the scheme, households installing rooftop solar systems of 1-2 kW can receive a subsidy ranging from Rs 30,000 to Rs 60,000, while installations of 2-3 kW are eligible for assistance of Rs 60,000 to Rs 78,000. For systems ab...
