Kolkata, July 12 -- A Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP)-rank officer on Sunday took charge of the investigation into the alleged rape and murder of a minor girl at Suryapur in Baruipur as the West Bengal government stepped up its response to the incident.
Police said DSP (District Enforcement Branch) Shantanu Mukhopadhyay of Baruipur Police District had been appointed as the new investigating officer to expedite the probe and examine all aspects of the case. The development came a day after Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari visited the families of the minor victim and alleged lynching victim Indrajit Mondal and assured them of a speedy investigation.
