Patna, June 25 -- Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary on Thursday said that the Emergency was a dark chapter in India's democratic history, when attempts were made to suppress the Constitution and democratic values.
Addressing a programme to mark the anniversary of the imposition of Emergency, he said that in a democracy, governments are elected by the people and must remain accountable to them. Governments should directly address issues affecting the public and work to resolve them effectively.
Choudhary said that efforts are being made to strengthen democratic institutions, ensure justice for the poor, uphold women's dignity, safeguard and promote the prosperity of farmers, and provide better education and employment opportunities for...
