New Delhi, Aug. 15 -- Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the nation on Saturday from the ramparts of the Red Fort as India celebrated its 80th Independence Day amid heavy security and patriotic fervour. For the first time, the National Song, "Vande Mataram," was performed during the celebrations ahead of the Prime Minister's address.

In his address, Modi declared, "Our country can no longer be driven by small dreams. We must dream big, because big dreams expand our thinking and broaden the horizons of our vision."He added that a nation achieves its aspirations when it moves forward on the strength of its dreams, resolve and capabilities, and that strong resolve helps a nation find its way through difficulties and disasters.
