Kolkata, April 16 -- There are 29 criminal cases lodged across the state against the Leader of the Opposition and BJP candidate Suvendu Adhikari who is contesting from the Nandigram Assembly constituency, a report released jointly by two non-governmental poll watchdogs on Thursday stated.

The first phase of the West Bengal elections is scheduled on April 23 and has 1478 candidates in the fray contesting from 152 seats.

In Nandigram of East Midnapore district, Adhikari is pitted against Trinamool Congress's Pabitra Kar, Congress's Shekh Jariatul Hossain and Aam Janata Unnayan party's Sahidul Haque Mondal.
