Kolkata, June 7 -- The crackdown on Kolkata Municipal Corporation councillors continued after the BJP assumed power in West Bengal, with Mohammad Jasimuddin, councillor of Ward No. 39 in Jorasanko, being arrested on Sunday morning.
With his arrest, the number of KMC councillors arrested in the past 24 hours has risen to two, following the arrest of Ward No. 101 councillor Bappaditya Dasgupta on extortion charges late on Saturday.
According to the police, Jasimuddin was arrested from his residence in Jorasanko after an operation that lasted nearly six hours.
Personnel from Jorasanko Police Station, assisted by central forces, had reached his house around 6 am.
