Kolkata, Aug. 30 -- Following the government policy of zero tolerance against corruption, Lalbazar has suspended two police personnel, including a traffic sergeant, and removed a civic volunteer following allegations that they were extorting money from goods vehicle drivers at Ghatakpukur intersection in Bhangar.
The action was taken on August 27 following complaints that money was allegedly being collected from goods trucks passing through the area.
Sources said a complaint was lodged with the Chief Minister's Office, following which an inquiry identified three persons allegedly involved in the extortion.
