Thiruvananthapuram, July 9 -- Thiruvananthapuram Mayor V.V. Rajesh has levelled serious allegations against the CPI(M), claiming that an organised waste mafia, allegedly backed directly and indirectly by a former minister and assisted by CPI(M) workers and criminal gangs, was carrying out illegal waste dumping across the state capital.
He alleged that the objective was to deliberately pollute the city, create conditions conducive to the spread of disease, and tarnish the image of the BJP-led Corporation after the change in power.
The Mayor urged the CPI(M) to immediately stop what he described as an organised campaign of dumping garbage into rivers, canals and public places under the cover of darkness.
