New Delhi, Oct. 2 -- Congress MP Amarinder Singh Raja Warring on Friday formally resigned as Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) president, handing over his resignation to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi during a meeting at 10 Janpath in New Delhi and bringing to an end his nearly four-and-a-half-year tenure at the helm of the state unit.

Warring met Gandhi for about an hour and later described his decision to step down as voluntary, stressing that he had not been asked by the party leadership to resign. "Nobody asked me to resign. I have worked for four-and-a-half years and now I need some rest," he told reporters after the meeting.
