Chennai, Aug. 26 -- It's more than 75 days since Mettur dam could not be opened up for irrigation and it has caused deep concern among the farmers.
Thanks to consistent inflow due to releae of surplus waters from Karnataka reservoirs, the water level in the Mettur dam, the lifeline of farmers in Cauvery delta districts for irrigation, is fast inching towards the 90 ft mark bringing cheers in the face of farmers, with reports hinting that Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay will open the sluice gates for irrigation in all likelihood on August 28, Friday.
Revenue Minister K.A.Sengottaiyan told reporters here on Wednesday that water would be released from the dam soon. The Chief Minister would decide on the date, he added.
