Chennai, June 16 -- Amid demands from farmers dissatisfied with the earlier waiver announced by the ruling TVK headed by Chief Minister Vijay, the Tamil Nadu Government on Tuesday enhanced the loan component waiver to the tune of about Rs 6,000 crore from the earlier Rs 50,000 announced on May 25 to Rs 75,000 benefitting more than 14.43 lakh farmers.
A decision to this effect was taken by Vijay after a high level meeting held in the wake of demands from various farmer associations and criticisms from opposition parties, accusing the TVK of going back on its promise of full waiver of farm loans.
