Chennai, Aug. 15 -- Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay announced hike in pension for freedom fighters and ex-servicemen in his maiden Independence Day address from the ramparts of Fort St George here on Saturday.
Addressing after unfurling the National flag, Vijay announced that the State government's montly pension for freedom fighters would be increased to Rs 23,000. The marriage assistance provided for the two daughters of ex-servicemen would be doubled from Rs 25,000 to Rs.50,000, while monthly financial assistance for families of differently abled ex-servicemen would be increased from Rs 5,000 to Rs.7,000.
