Chennai, Aug. 10 -- Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay on Monday announced higher incentives for the first time over and above the Minium Support Price (MSP) for paddy and sugarcane procurement from the farmers.

Making a suo motu statement under Rule 110 in the State Assembly, he cited the commencement of the procurement season for paddy from September one and announced Rs 289 per quintal for Grade-A fine variety paddy and Rs 156 for common variety as state government's incentive over and above the MSP, taking into account the welfare of the farmers.

With this increase, the farmers will receive Rs 2,750 and Rs 2,600 per quintal for Grade A and common paddy respectively, Vijay said, adding, it was for the first time in the history of the stat...
