Bengaluru, Aug. 6 -- Escalating its campaign against state control of Hindu religious institutions, the Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) on Thursday announced the launch of a nationwide 'Mandir Mukti Abhiyan', demanding that governments relinquish control over Hindu temples and hand their administration over to the Hindu community.

Announcing the campaign, VHP leaders said the organisation would mobilise devotees, seers and religious organisations across Karnataka and the country to press for legislative changes ending government management of temples. The campaign will include public meetings, signature drives, awareness programmes and representations to state governments.
