Agartala, Sept. 12 -- Veteran Tripura politician and former Congress MLA Tapas Dey passed away early this morning at the age of 84 after suffering from a prolonged illness. He took his last breath around 1:45 am at Agartala Govt Medical College & GBP Hospital.
Dey is survived only by distant relatives and many friends and admirers.
His passing had a profound impact, transcending political boundaries because of the personal connections he built with leaders from all political parties, bureaucrats, journalists, lawyers, and civil society. Dey had an extensive political career beginning in 1968, serving as an MLA from the Congress party between 1972 and 1977.
