Mumbai, June 1 -- Veteran playback singer Suman Kalyanpur died here on Sunday, family sources said. She was 89.

She breathed her last late this evening at her residence in Mumbai, bringing an end to a remarkable musical journey that spanned several decades.

Her voice bore such striking similarity to that of melody queen Lata Mangeshkar that common listeners sometimes mistook one for the other.

Her journey in cinema began with films such as 'Shukrachi Chandni' and 'Mangu' (1954).
