Chennai, June 18 -- In a sudden and surprise development, veteran leader C Mahendran on Thursday evening ended his more than half century association with the CPI and quit the party and joined the ruling TVK headed by Vijay banking on his promise of eradicating corruption.
A former MLA and Assistant Secretary of the CPI, which is extending outside support to the TVK government, along with the Marxists, Mahendran was the first leader from CPI to switch loyalty as the Tamil Nadu politcal scene continued to witness post poll defections.'He formally joined TVK in the presence of senior leaders at the party office.
