Solan, July 6 -- A stalwart of the Communist movement and president of the All India Trade union Congress (AITUC) Himachal Pradesh unit, Jagdish Bhardwaj, passed away last night.

He was 72 and is survived by wife, two sons and a daughter.

Bhardwaj breathed his last at the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) in Chandigarh. According to family sources, he had been battling a brief illness and was admitted to the premier medical institute for treatment.

Born in Kandhar village of the Mangal region under the Arki constituency in Solan district, Bhardwaj rose through the ranks to establish himself as a formidable 'Comrade' and a pillar of the left movement in Himachal Pradesh.
