New Delhi, Aug. 10 -- Congress general secretary (organisation) and Public Accounts Committee chairman K C Venugopal has urged Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla to use his constitutional powers to direct union Home Minister Amit Shah to appear before the House and make a comprehensive statement on what he described as alleged police atrocities and the use of pellet guns against youth and students in Delhi.
In a letter to Birla, Venugopal described the Speaker as the "custodian of the rights and privileges" of the Lok Sabha and said the Chair had inherent powers to ensure that the Executive remained accountable to Parliament.
