Shivamogga, Sept. 15 -- A fresh political flashpoint over Vande Mataram erupted in Karnataka on Tuesday after BJP MLA S.N. Channabasappa walked out of a government function here, accusing the Congress government of "insulting the Constitution" by allowing only two stanzas of the national song to be sung.

The confrontation occurred during a youth parliament programme organised by the Shivamogga district administration at Dr B.R. Ambedkar Bhavan to mark International Democracy Day.

District Collector Prabhulinga Kavalikatti, Zilla Panchayat CEO Hemanth Kumar, judicial officers and other dignitaries were present at the programme when, according to the MLA, Vande Mataram was stopped after two stanzas.
