Washington, Aug. 14 -- The aircraft carrier USS George Washington is heading to West Asia to replace the USS Abraham Lincoln, a US official told CBS News, as the Lincoln nears the end of a deployment that has lasted almost nine months.
The Lincoln was deployed in November 2025, initially to the Pacific before being sent to West Asia ahead of the Iran war. In recent weeks, some of the families of sailors aboard the carrier have raised concerns about conditions on the ship and uncertainty over when it will return home.
