Washington, Aug. 20 -- The United States has secretly established a shipping corridor through the Strait of Hormuz to keep oil flowing to global markets, with 15 to 20 tankers transiting the waterway each night under a US-led operation, Axios reported, citing two US officials familiar with the effort.
The operation, which has been underway for several weeks, uses a southern channel along the coast of Oman. US officials said the corridor is currently allowing about 10 million barrels of oil a day to leave the Gulf, roughly half the volume transported through the strait before the war.
The officials said the operation is helping ease disruptions to global oil supplies after the conflict caused crude prices to surge.
