Washington, June 25 -- The US Senate has rejected a measure aimed at limiting President Donald Trump's authority to conduct military operations against Iran, granting a significant victory to the White House and Senate Republican leaders amid their ongoing bid to contain growing Congressional unease over the administration's Iran policy, which has received heavy criticism.

The procedural motion failed by a narrow vote of 50-47 on late Wednesday, with two Republican senators Susan Collins and Lisa Murkowski joining the mostly Democrat-backed resolution introduced by Democratic Sen Tim Kaine.
