Washington, Aug. 8 -- The US Senate on Friday overwhelmingly approved a sweeping Russia sanctions bill named in honor of the late Senator Lindsey Graham, advancing legislation that would impose mandatory sanctions on senior Russian officials and tariffs of up to 100% on countries that buy Russian oil and gas.
The measure passed 86-11 in a bipartisan vote. It now faces the House of Representatives, which is scheduled to remain on recess until September.
The bill would require sanctions on Russian President Vladimir Putin and other senior government figures, as well as Russian oligarchs, state-owned enterprises and foreign companies supporting Russia's defense industry.
