New York, Sept. 5 -- Venus and Serena Williams were regal in their return to Arthur Ashe Stadium and the US Open, emerging from the players' tunnel in varsity jackets meant to remind tennis fans of the dynasty they once held over the sport.
And for much of their first round match with Chinese Taipei's Chan Hao-Ching and Australia's Maya Joint on Friday (4 September), it seemed as though Venus, 46, and Serena, 44, were readyto reinstate their dominion over the women's doubles court.
Blasting backhands, playing strong at the net and serving up a storm deep into the third set, the North American sister act were primed to take the match at 0-5 in the third set tiebreak, before Chan and Joint surged past them and held on to win 10-7 on Friday....
