Washington, May 2 -- The United States, alongside a coalition of allied maritime nations, has opposed the International Maritime Organization's (IMO) proposed Net-Zero Framework (NZF), arguing that it would function as a global carbon tax that could harm American consumers, shipping industries, and broader economic interests.

At the 84th session of the IMO Marine Environment Protection Committee (MEPC 84), US diplomats, operating under an "America First" policy approach, helped steer discussions toward alternative proposals rather than adopting the contested NZF framework.
