Washington/Tehran, Sept. 5 -- An Iranian tanker was hit by US forces on Saturday near Kharg Island, Iran's main oil export hub in the Persian Gulf, reports Iran's semi-official Tasnim news agency.
A Tasnim correspondent on Kharg said the tanker was struck by four US missiles while at anchor near the island. According to local sources there were no casualties and that the vessel's crew was being evacuated.
Iranian authorities had not immediately issued an official statement, while CENTCOM declined to issue a comment.
